The Crane Trainee

I was told it was really hard to get into this industry so that pushed me to make my own way even more. I would go around to different sites and ask around and that’s how I am with the company that I am with now.

Jane: “When I finished school I was a checkout chick, but I got sick of the industry and decided hey I’m gonna get my truck licence.

I was told it was really hard to get into this industry so that pushed me to make my own way even more. I would go around to different sites and ask around and that’s how I am with the company that I am with now.”

Brett: “Jane used to ring me pretty regularly looking for a traineeship like most trainees do. We put her on for 6 months driving our tilt tray. Jane certainly proved herself to the point that my boss Tim Metcalfe said after first meeting her that “one day she will drive big cranes”, and that’s a huge credit to Jane and to women in the industry. She’s our shining light. We couldn’t be more proud of her.”

Jane: “I’ve got about two years experience now. I love rocking up to site and the boys doing a double take and going “Oh! That’s a girl”. And I’m good at it. I love to show them that we can do stuff aswell. I really enjoy working with machines. Hopefully in the future I will be driving cranes. You will see me out on the roads doing that.”

I love proving them wrong
